On a frigid, blustery Tuesday morning in the middle of December, a seemingly endless winter storm, for days plaguing those in the region ensnared in its path, continued to slowly ravage its way across the state. By mid-morning, another series of squalls abruptly blanketed the frozen landscape. A treacherous concoction of wet, heavy snow coupled with near-hurricane-force winds tightened its grip with blizzard-like conditions throughout much of Sweetwater County, rendering the interstate and many...

  • ACLU of Wyo. opposes "Don't Say Gay" bill

    Wyoming ACLU|Jan 26, 2023

The ACLU of Wyoming opposes Senate File 117, legislation that would ban classroom discussions related to sexual orientation and gender identity in Wyoming’s public schools. The government censorship bill, which closely mirrors Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill that was signed into law last year and is currently being challenged in federal court, would silence students from speaking about their LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit family members, friends and neighbors and would create costly new liabilities for school districts. Under the bill, any parent who thi...

  • Letter to the Editor: Lummis should be censored for supporting "Respect for Marriage" act

    Jan 26, 2023

Dear Editor, US Senator Lummis voted YES on H.R. 8404, which is falsely titled the “Respect for Marriage Act.” There were many reasons to oppose this bill. One is that they disrespect marriage (a God-ordained institution) by seeking to change its meaning. Since our nation’s founding documents -- the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights -- are based on the premise that rights come from God, H.R. 8404 are antithetical to our nation’s values. H.R. 8404 also was unconstitutional, since marriage is a state matter, not a fede...

  • Wyoming's state seal scandal

Dick Blust, Sweetwater County Historical Museum|Jan 26, 2023

Wyoming's state seal was officially adopted just under 130 years ago, but two of the proposed seal designs that preceded it caused quite a scandal. From 1869 to 1890 Wyoming was a U.S. territory, achieving statehood on July 10, 1890. During its territorial years - and for three years into statehood - it had a territorial seal that depicted agricultural and mining implements, an arm holding an upright saber, a scene with mountains and a train, the motto "Oedant Arma Toga," ("Let Arms Yield to...

  • Lady Wolves slam dunk two conference wins

    Jackie Finch, General Manager|Jan 26, 2023

The Lady Wolves traveled to Evanston last Thursday and played against the Evanston Red Devils for their first conference game. Head Coach Rick Carroll felt like both teams started a little tense and there wasn't a lot of scoring the first half. Both teams were playing hard and aggressive. "We had two of the leading rebounders in the state playing, so we were limiting each other to one shot each time down," said Carroll. "I felt defensively we played pretty good and we made them turn the ball...
