    Jack H. Smith, Staff Writer|Dec 31, 2014

Nearly 20-years ago a group of local residents started what has become a New Year’s Day tradition. They started the new year with a quick swim in the cold water. Event organizer Randy Walker is asking those interested to meet at Expedition Island at 10 am. and they will then make a decision to do the plunge in the Green River or on the swimming beach at Lucerne. • Movie drama kills winter films

    Jack H. Smith, Staff Writer|Dec 31, 2014

While I’m not as obsessed as I used to be, I still consider myself to be a movie buff. I love everything from a big time summer blockbuster to more of an indie movie whose plot can be something as strange as a guy who falls in love with his cell phone. There are often times nothing better than going to the theater, spending a paycheck on popcorn and a soda with enough sugar to give the entire state of Delaware type-two diabetes. The same goes for a movie night at home. Once the movie starts y...

  • Feeling a pinch from an online scam

    Jack H. Smith, Staff Writer|Dec 31, 2014

As a journalist, one of the biggest parts of my job is meeting deadlines. While the paper comes out on Wednesday, I often times will have to have stories done Monday or even earlier. It’s something I’m used to, and one would think that would be something that would carry over to all aspects of my life. This is not the case. I procrastinate on a variety of things and this Christmas season it really came back to bite me in the behind. I try to get presents locally and I did this year for some on...

  • The downsides to the winter months

    Jack H. Smith, Staff Writer|Dec 17, 2014

It happens every year. Daylight savings rolls around and makes it dark earlier. With the onset of the darkness, I sink it to a small depression that won’t subside until it’s light again as I make my way home. There is just something super wrong about getting done with a stressful day at the office and it being dark. There is no fun in that. Don’t get me wrong, I love living in Wyoming, but truth be told I have never been a fan of winter and some of the things that come with. While a lot of peopl...

  • Technology doesn't trump old-school paper

    Jack H. Smith, Staff Writer|Dec 10, 2014

We live in a world, where technology has pretty much taken over everything. Even at sacred places like church, phones are everywhere. I guess now poor Dad who wanted to miss church so he could watch his beloved Green Bay Packers can actually watch his Packers from a pew. While he can’t have a nice cold beer, he can have a l...
