Middle school team wins conference title

The Green River Middle School swim team capped off a remarkable season last weekend at the South Conference Meet.

The team finished the season unbeaten after capturing first place at the meet that took place at the new Green River High School Aquatic Center.

The team had a total of 358 points, finishing well ahead of Lyman who finished second with 244 points.

Coach Michele O’Melia said the girls made a commitment to the team and it paid off.

“The girls had heart and left everything in the pool,” she said.

Green River had three swimmers finish first in their events.

Ashley Jensen finished first in the 50-yard butterfly, Sydni Sanders finished first in the 100-yard freestyle, and Emilee Mandros captured first in the 100-yard breaststroke.

O’Melia said Sanders was able to break the minute mark in her event with a time of 59.97.
