  • Seeking the mysterious, horrible smell

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Jul 29, 2015

Have you ever opened your refrigerator door and thought “What on earth is that smell?” That happened to me again recently. I opened the door to get my boys a snack and was hit with a pungent smell. I quickly grabbed the boys snack and shut the door. “Like that is going to help,” I thought. Once the boys were busy eating their snack, I opened the door again and started the process of looking through the fridge to find the culprit behind the nasty smell. I first looked through the vegetab...

  • Growing a vegetable garden

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Jul 15, 2015

For the first time in several years, I decided to grow a vegetable garden. This isn’t a decision I made overnight. It has been a real work in progress. After my husband and I moved into our new house about four years ago, we had a lot of other projects on our minds; and so the backyard vegetable garden was placed on hold. Last year, we finally decided where we wanted to put the garden and my husband and I started building a four-tired raised garden bed. It was a lot of hard work. We decided t...

  • Has the magic ended?

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Jul 8, 2015

It seems as though my children go through phases. Some are good; and others I would rather just forget. One phase that will always leave a lasting memory and a spot in my heart is the kissing the boo boo phase. My first son Matthew, who is now 5, went through this phase about a couple of years ago. Now, my youngest son John, who is 3, is going through this phase, or so I thought. It seemed like every time, no matter how big or small the injury, if it is a tiny scratch to a big bruise, John wante...

Despite the heat, children were still standing in long lines waiting for their turn. There were several lines. One for a bounce house, another for a slide, one for an obstacle course and another for a pirate ship. After the children bounced around or went down the slides, they would quickly run back to the end of the line for another go. After a few times, their faces were starting to get red and they looked as though they were getting tired, but that didn't stop them from running back to the...

"Alexander was defending his fifth-place finish in extemporaneous debate from last year at nationals," head coach Carina Stulken said. This year, Marchal had one big advantage - he had done...
