A $57 million budget was unanimously approved by the Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees last week, which includes $40 million in the district’s general fund. “This is the absolute best (budget) I’ve seen in 19 years,” board member Steve Core said. “It explains it all. The mosquitoes are in full force this summer and the city is fighting back. Green River Parks and Recreation Director Brad Raney, sent out a press release in June about the city’s plan to control the mosquitoes. The plan includes eliminating larvae to combating adults in places around the city. For areas of standing water they are using BTI biscuits. These tablets neutralize the mosquito larvae. The Mansface Mountain Music Festival will kick off its second year this weekend. The festival, hosted by the Muley Fanatics Foundation, begins at 11 a.m., Friday and Saturday. The group is excited to still have its musical line up both nights with the return of Jalan Crossland, who will wrap things up Saturday. Despite challenges in the recycling industry, Wyoming Waste Systems remains committed to recycling, according to Michelle Foote, Rock Springs site manager for WWS. She said the company looked into building a facility to sort recyclable materials in Rock Springs, but said it was ultimately deemed economically unfeasible. With Flaming Gorge Days approaching and the levels of the Green River nearing the top of the banks, city officers are asking residents and visitors to take extra care when near the river. A woman allegedly bit a Green River police officer following an altercation at her home June 6. Jeanette Wilson, 63, of Green River, is being charged with two counts of abuse of a vulnerable adult and one count of interference with a police officer.
