  • Western Wyo. is a good college

    DAVID MARTIN, Editor|Apr 25, 2018

A few weeks back, a comment made by school board member Ann Rudoff stuck out for me. During a vote to give the high school speech and debate team funding to help pay for their trip to nationals, Rudoff said she would vote against the proposal, saying a discussion needed to happen with the speech and debate team about Western Wyoming Community College, where Rudoff works. “Western is not an ugly place and Western has a good speech and debate team,” she said. Children were tasked with guiding a group of five settlers along the trail from Independence, Mo., to the Willamette Valley in Oregon, facing the hardships settlers endured along the route. Death can be quick and merciless on the trail...

Now a new, related product with the brand name JUUL has entered the market and is especially appealing to teens. An e-cigarette, which looks much like a traditional cigarette, heats a liquid to create an aerosol, called “vapor,” that can be inhaled. • Kerry Drake, Wyofile.com|Mar 28, 2018

When Republican state legislators caucus, they convene the numbers and the power to determine Wyoming law, and they do so behind closed doors. That is a choice. They could, if they wanted, allow the public to observe the deliberations that de facto determine the public’s business. But, in my 40-year career as a Wyoming journalist, I can’t recall a single instance of them opting to caucus anywhere other than the proverbial smoke-filled backroom. And their penchant for privacy is getting worse. I’m probably the outsider who has come the close...  Website
