Indoor track team competes at Simplot

The Green River’s indoor track team competed at the Simplot Games Indoor Track Meet in Pocatello, Idaho over the weekend.

There were 21 Wyoming teams in attendance, as well as teams from 20 different states, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with a total of 2,000 athletes competing in one of the most prestigious Indoor Track Meets in the United States.

The Green River girls team consisted of six competitors, three freshman, two juniors and one senior, while the boys had eight competitors: one freshman, four sophomores, and three seniors.

For the girls, freshman Ellie Kettering defeated nearly half the field of 111 in the 60-meter dash, taking 63rd in a time of 8.61. Rachel Foster, a junior, competed in the 60-meter hurdles, taking 72nd in a time of 11.16.

In the 400-meter run the top finisher for the Lady Wolves was freshman Lillian Munoz, who outran almost half the field of 81 runners, finishing 44th in 1:06.60.

Green River had two runners in the 800-meter run with Carly Kettering outrunning approximately half the field of 109 runners and taking 55th in 2:36.78, while freshman Madison Yoak came in 71st in 2:41.38.

The Green River 1,600 medley relay team finished 28th out of 48 teams and senior Kaisa Arnell finished 84th out of 165 runners in the 1,600-meter run in 6:01.14.

The boys had two underclassman in the 60-meter dash, led by sophomore Marcos Molina taking 43rd in 7.47, while freshman Breyden Moorman placed 83rd in the field of 112 runners in 7.90. The Wolves had one runner in the 200-meter dash as sophomore Tyler Killett took 88th of 125 sprinters in 26.03.

The boys also had two runners in the 400-meter run with two seniors Jarrett Atkins finishing 63rd in 57.11 and Josh Cudney placing 86th in 1:00.03 out of 100 runners.

The boys competed in two relays as they took 16th out of 52 teams in 3:53.85 in the sprint medley relay and finished the 4x200-meter relay taking 39th in a field of 65 teams with a time of 1:41.77.

Head coach Dan Hansen was very pleased with the performance of all his competitors as he noted nearly every competitor achieved their personal best times.

In the distance events, sophomore Caeden Grubb took 88th out of 112 runners with a time of 2:23.34 and another sophomore, Greg Sherwin, took 77th in the 3,200 meters in 11:29.34.

The top competitor of the day was Marcos Valerio, who made the finals in the 1,600-meter run with an excellent 18th place finish in 4:33.79. Hansen said Valerio ran extremely well in the finals, saying he sprinted the last 300 meters.

Hansen was also pleased with the performance of their relay teams.
