Green River represented at Natrona County track meet

The Green River High School Boys and Girls Indoor Track Team sent a small group of athletes to Casper Friday and Saturday due to injuries and students taking college entrance exams.

Despite the small team, there were some personal records set and good improvements by many of the Green River competitors.

In the boys sprints, sophomore Tyler Killett led the way in the 55-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter run for the boys. In the 55 meters, Killett finished 31st in a field of 112 sprinters in 7.10, followed by freshman Breydan Moorman in 38th at 7.20, sophomore Domenick Kunkle in 94th at 7.89 and freshman Alex Atkinson in 108th at 8.37. Those three sprinters finished in the same order for the Wolves, taking 51st, 69th 81st and 85th in the 200 meters. In the 400-meter run, Killett was 10th out of 50 runners in 57.21, followed by Josh Cudney in 27th in 1:00.27.

Senior Marcos Valerio was the top finisher for the Wolves in the distance runs, as he has been all season, finishing in the top five in the 800-meter and 1,600 meter runs, then taking second in the 3,200-meter run.

In the 800 meters, Valerio’s time of 2:08.10 was a personal record. He was followed by sophomore Caeden Grubb in 38th place and sophomore Jared Westenskow in 43rd place. In the 1,600 meters, sophomore Greg Sherwin followed Valerio by finishing 36th in the field of 57 distance runners, with a new personal best cutting his previous best by 8 seconds. He was followed by Grubb in 42nd place and Kaeden Gailey in 46th place. Gailey also earned a personal record, improving his time by 10 seconds. Evin Hansen finished 53rd, also improving his time with a personal record by 21 seconds. Freshman Austyn Maser, running the race for the first time, took 56th. In the 3,200 meters, Valerio was followed by Sherwin in fourth, Gailey in 10th and Hansen 11th with Sherwin hitting a new personal record by cutting his time by 2o seconds. Gailey also hit a personal record, improving his time by 13 seconds.

In the relays, the boys 4x400-meter team took ninth and the sprint medley team took fifth, with the 4x800-meter team taking seventh.

With 42 jumpers participating in the long jump, the Wolves were led by Cudney with a personal record of 17.06.25, good enough for 20th place. He was followed by Domenick Kunkle with his personal record of 16.02.25, taking 31st. Atkinson made a jump of 15.05.50.

Green River had four throwers in the shot put with senior David Martinez earning a personal record throw of 46.10, good enough for fifth place out of 63. He was followed by sophomore Jake Martinez in 21st, junior Tito Mena in 46th and freshman Adam Robinson 27.06. For the Lady Wolves, freshman Ellie Kettering finished 19th in the field of 96 sprinters with a personal record of 8.01 in the 55 meters. Kettering came back to take 17th out of 86 in the 200-meter dash in 29.32.

Senior Kaisa Arnell finished 21st in the 400 meters, while junior Carly Kettering took 16th our of 36 runners in a personal best of 2:44.15, followed by freshman Jade Arnell, running for the first time this year, taking 32nd.

She came back and took 29th in the 1,600-meter run in 6:54.09. Kaisa Arnell was fourth in the 3,200 meters with a personal best of 13.18.33. The girls sprint medley relay team took eighth out of 10 teams.

In the field events, E. Kettering recorded another personal best of 31.06.50 in the triple jump, placing fourth out of the 21 jumpers and junior Alaina Maiers took 22nd out of 65 throwers in the shot put, with a toss of 28.06.

Next up for the Wolves will be the prestigious Simplot Games on Thursday and Friday in Pocatello, Idaho.
