Offseason key for GR volleyball

It can be said that champions are made during the offseason, and if the summer was any indication it could be a solid year for the Green River High School volleyball team.

According to head coach Rikki Shantz, the there were a lot of girls who showed up to camps during the offseason and many of them also played in club leagues.

“We have a bunch of girls who have been doing clubs since seventh grade and they are finally getting to an age where they are going to make a difference of the varsity level,” she said. “Some of the girls don’t have an offseason which is really good.

After the first week of practice Shantz said things have been going really good.

“We have a good group of girls who are motivated and working really hard. We are having a lot of fun,” she said.

She said the team has a lot of juniors who have a lot of experience so that is a good thing for the team.

After spending the first three weeks of the season on the road, the Lady Wolves will open the home season Sept. 19 against Natrona County. They will host rival Rock Springs Oct. 9. The members of the 2014 varsity team are Hattie Hix, Lauressa Tramp, Sarah Herd, Mariah Morin, Kasey Turnbull, Taylor Stoeger, Lyndsey Burnett, Averee Cobb, Ali Dewey, Emily White and Jenny Dunham.
