For a fourth year in a row, a free summer food program continues to serve the community. Linda Martin, Sweetwater County School District No. 2 nutrition service director, and Leah Kenison, nutrition service assistant director, have implemented the summer food program since 2015. It is a federal grant given to areas based on the yearly census. Once approved, it is in place for five years. The census is reassessed each year and the five years is extended accordingly. Dueling Dames, a feisty mother-daughter duo, used humor and education in their performance at Centennial Park. This performance was part of the Sweetwater County Library summer lineup last Thursday. The Dueling Dames, Victoria and Carson Goring, have been traveling across country sharing their live theater act. Denny Pace’s family history created a lifelong passion in World War II reenactment. Pace, a Green River resident, recalls watching war documentaries with his dad, Presley Pace, while growing up. He remembers slowly beginning to enjoy them more after he learned about his own family’s connection to the war. Pace mainly studies the method of the Army’s 182 Airborne Division, having researched the daily life and routine of soldiers for the past 20 years. A Green River teacher has already received honors on a local level and now he will receive national recognition. Green River High School teacher Bradlee Skinner was recently given the Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Teacher of the Year award. Western Wyoming Community College hosted the 38th Annual High School Equivalency Graduation last week. The Learning Center at Western provides Wyoming High School Equivalency preparation and testing at the main Rock Springs campus, as well as at outreach centers in Big Piney, Bridger Valley, Green River, Kemmerer, Pinedale, and Star Valley. Rehabilitation Services Director Debbie DeFauw recently received lymphedema training and certification and now can provide complete lymphedema treatment. Quilts of all sizes and themes will once again be on display at the Quilting on the Green show.
