Another Lady Wolf is ready to move from the high school to the college level, and she knows what it takes to make progress.
Green River High School Senior Eva Murray recently committed to play volleyball at Northwest College in Powell. She celebrated this decision with a signing ceremony with her family and coach last week.
Having played volleyball for the Lady Wolves at the Varsity level all four years of high school, Murray has seen a lot of changes and growth from when she began.
"We improved a lot as a team, and we rebuilt the team culture and how things are at Green River High School, and that's been really cool to see and be a part of," she explained. "Our record has improved substantially, and also our team morale and team culture. We've grown closer together, and I think we work better as a team now."
Jessica Demaret, who was the Girls Volleyball Head Coach during Murray's high school career, credits Murray with being a crucial part of the team's growth and improvement.
"She was a three-year starter for me, and just a huge part of the rebuilding and success of the Green River Volleyball program over the last three years," Demaret said of Murray.
Demaret explained that she's been working with the same group of girls, including Murray, since they were in fifth or sixth grade, so they've shared years of good memories. When trying to think of a specific highlight, Demaret said that qualifying for State this past year was very fun, since it was "a good end to all of our hard work that we have put in," and Murray was a crucial part of it.
"Green River Volleyball is going to miss her a lot," Demaret said of Murray. "We're excited to support her and continue to watch her in her volleyball career. She's going to do great."
Demaret has no doubt that Murray will be "successful right from the get go" in college, but knows that being able to play with new athletes at a higher level will help her grow even more.
Murray is excited for the new challenges as well.
"It'll be a change, for sure, but it's a good change," she said. "I'll get to play with better people and play against better people and learn from them. I'm excited to learn a lot more."
In order to help her continue learning, Murray chose to attend Northwest College.
"I'm going there because I know that they have a really good team, and I know that the coaches are really good, and I'm excited to stay in Wyoming and learn and grow from them," she said.
As for what she's already learned, Murray noted that volleyball has taught her to "never cut corners and never do anything halfway." She added that "you have to be all in and you have to always work as hard as you can if you want to be good and improve."
