Pineda's Kenpo Karate team competed in the All-Star Karate Martial Arts Championships held in Herriman Utah on April 26th.
The Green River team was led once again by Adalind Nash who placed 1st in sparring, forms, breaking, weapons, and padded sword sparring, and 2nd in flag sparring. Adalind also won her third consecutive Grand Champion based on cumulative points.
Recently promoted purple belt Triss Nash was excited to compete in the intermediate/advanced division for the first time. Triss placed 1st in sparring, 2nd in flag sparring, padded sword sparring, and weapons, and 3rd in forms.
Carter Corthell had his best tournament this year with 1st place finishes in sparring, flag sparring, board breaking and padded sword sparring, and 2nd in forms and weapons. Carter also competed admirably for Grand Champion.
Evan St. John was competitive, finishing 1st in forms, weapons, and padded sword sparring.
Kaylin Warner recently returning to competition finished 2nd in weapons, forms, and flag sparring.
Ron Rice finished 2nd in creative weapons.
The Championships were the team's final tune up event before the 44th Annual Western Wyoming Karate Championships which will be held at the Green River Recreation Center on May 10th. This local event offers 170 divisions for all ages, including sparring, forms, weapons, self-defense, musical divisions, as well as board-breaking, padded sword sparring, and flag sparring. The Western Wyoming Karate Championships has the reputation as an incredibly competitive regional tournament drawing numerous former world champions in Sport Karate from multiple organizations and leagues. Competitors come from Wyoming, Utah, Montano, Colorado and Idaho.
Pineda's teams' hard work and dedication this season has prepared them to be solid contenders in the upcoming Western Wyoming Karate Championships.
