Lady Wolves have close games against Trailblazers and Bulldogs

Last week, the Green River Lady Wolves Softball team hosted the Torrington Trailblazers and the Wheatland Bulldogs.

Their first game was a conference game against Torrington on Friday. Torrington managed to get on the board early with one run in the top of the first inning, but Green River responded well with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. After that, the Lady Wolves continued to play well and steadily built their lead up, scoring in nearly every inning and never giving Torrington a chance to get back into the game. In the end, Green River took the win 9-2 after six and a half innings.

The top hitters for Green River were Chacee Shiner, Kodi Allred, Jocelyn Shantz and Haidyn Terry, who all managed to get two hits during the game. Allred also managed to score three runs, followed by Shiner and Ally White who scored two runs each. Green River's pitcher for this game was Terry, who managed to get an impressive nine strikeouts while only allowing seven hits throughout the game.

Head Coach Mark Hyde said that the team "played really well and did what they needed to do" during this game. He felt they were hitting the ball well, and also mentioned how the team made zero errors in the field throughout the game.

The Lady Wolves played another game against Torrington after this, which ended up being a great offensive showing from both teams. Torrington took the lead early, with the score being 2-9 at the end of the second inning. Green River tried to fight their way back into the game with six runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't quite enough and they ended up losing 9-14 after five innings.

Shiner was the best batter for Green River again in this game, getting a hit in all three of her at bats. She was followed by Allred and White, who both had two hits. Emma Rieck was pitching for this game, and got two strikeouts while allowing 10 hits.

Green River's next opponent was Wheatland on Saturday. During their first matchup, the Bulldogs got out to an early lead in the first inning with three runs in the top of the first. Green River fought hard to stay in the game, and by the end of the fifth inning the score was tied 3-3. They couldn't hold on in the end however, and fell to the Bulldogs 3-6 after seven innings of play.

Green River had six players get two hits during this game: Shiner, Allred, Terry, Rieck, Danielle Maag and Cassie Kelley. Terry was pitching again for this game, and managed to rack up eight strikeouts while allowing 11 hits.

Although Green River got more hits than Wheatland, they just barely fell short of crossing the home plate on many occasions throughout the game. Coach Hyde said the team managed to get a lot of runners in good scoring positions, but they weren't able to get the important hits at key moments when they needed to.

The Lady Wolves played one more game against the Bulldogs after this, and struggled to keep up with them this time. They lost this game 1-16 after five innings.

Leah Sibert managed to get a hit in both of her at bats, and Michael Burns and Raelie Pate both managed to get one hit. Hadlee Mortimer pitched four of the five innings for this game, allowing 10 hits during that time. The other inning was pitched by Rieck, who allowed four hits.

Between the two Torrington games, Green River took a moment to recognize its senior players on the team. The seniors include Izzy Kelley, Ally White, Haidyn Terry, Kodi Allred, Emma Rieck, Danielle Maag, Chacee Shiner and Team Manager Ezia Romango. Coach Hyde feels that this is a great group of seniors, and that they have made a big impact on the team this season.

"This group of seniors has been so fun to coach," he stated. "They show up, work hard, lead by example, and just bring a great vibe to everything we do. The younger players really look up to them, and honestly, I think a big reason we haven't had any behavior or eligibility issues this year is because of the tone these seniors have set. We've done weekly captain leadership and character meetings with the seniors and JV captains, and it's been one of the best parts of my week. I've loved hearing their thoughts on what it means to be a good teammate, leader, and person. They've made a big impact on our program, and it's going to be tough to see them go at graduation."

Next week, the Lady Wolves won't have any games, so they will have a chance to rest before their next set of conference games against Cheyenne South and Laramie. They played two games against the Rock Springs Lady Tigers this Tuesday, and the results of these games will be covered next week.
