This past week the Green River High School Girls and Boys Tennis teams hosted the 2024 South Regional Tennis Championships at three court locations on Friday and Saturday in Green River. The Wolves competed in the South Regional with Cheyenne East, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne South, Laramie, Rawlins, Torrington, and Rock Springs.
The girls team had an excellent showing, finishing third overall as a team.
Green River's #1 Singles player Rylin Arnel was 1-2 on the day with some close matches. The Lady Wolves #2 player Grace Gomez was 2-1, winning two of her matches 6-0 with her only loss to the number one seed. She finished in second place overall. Green River's #1 Doubles team of Sidney Lopez and Brynlee Beutel finished with a 2-2 record and took fourth place. The girls #2 Doubles team of Tori Wahl and Savery English did a fine job, finishing third with a record of 2-1. The #3 Doubles team of Amanda Davis and Alexia Britton also placed third to finish out a very good effort on the day.
The boys #1 Singles player Dylan Archibald was 1-2 with several close matches. The Wolves #2 player Jake Nielson was 3-1 and took third place, including a win over the number two seed. The Boys #1 Doubles team of Neher and Hokanson finished 0-2 with two close contests. The #2 Doubles team of Kaiden Dodson and Aiden Neher finished at 2-1 to claim third place, while the #3 Doubles team of Jonathan Myers and Gabe Maez was 2-1 and good for fourth place.
Coach Harder commented after Regionals that the girls team had an especially fine performance. Harder felt the Lady Wolves #2 Singles player, Grace Gomez, who took second, had an outstanding performance. He also singled out the Boys #2 Doubles team, who also took second, as having an especially good performance.
Coach Harder noted that all players qualify for State based on their performance at Regionals, so some will have improved their seeding and some will drop.
The Coach commented he is very excited to be taking this team to State this week as his players have all worked hard for this opportunity.
The tennis season concludes this weekend with the State Championships in Gillette.
