Wolves Soccer team ranked number one in 3A West

The Green River Wolves Boys Soccer team continues to win games! The Wolves have won seven consecutive games, six of which were conference games. Green River is ranked first in the 3A West Conference, followed by Cody in second place and Powell in third place.

"I don't look at that too much. I just worry about each game," said Head Coach Josh Webb when asked about being ranked first. "But it's awesome!"

On Friday, Green River traveled to Lyman to take on the Eagles. The Wolves dominated the game, scoring four goals in the first half and one goal in the second half. Green River won the conference game with a final score of 5-0.

Leading the team was Izyk Arellano with three goals, along with Hunter Lake and Irie Kuball with one goal each. Aidan Falcon and Arellano each had one assist and Eddie Zarate had six saves during the game.

The Wolves had several players that had shots during the game, including Braxton Doak with five shots, Kuball with four shots, Arellano with three and Stone Rubeck, Falcom and Zane Dodson with two shots each. Christian Lee, Jake Stanton and Jaxon Morris took one shot each.

"They played pretty well," said Coach Webb about the win over Lyman. "That field gives us a challenge because it's a lot narrower. I'm really proud of them."

Coach Webb said Lyman has some good athletes and they are big and physical. Green River was able to match their physicality and moved the ball a lot better. He really likes that the boys are finding the net and stepping up.

On Saturday, Green River traveled to play another conference game against the Mountain View Buffalos. During the first half of the game, the Wolves scored one goal and kept the Buffalos from getting any goals. In the second half, Green River scored two more goals while Mountain View scored one goal. The Wolves won the game with a final score of 3-1.

Leading the team was Doak with two goals, along with a goal from Morris, and Kuball and Arellano had one assist each. Goalkeeper Zarate had nine outstanding saves during the game that ultimately kept Mountain View from winning the game.

Doak took seven shots during the game, Ruback took four shots and Kuball took two shots. There where also single shots from Maddux Hintz, Lee and Arellano.

Coach Webb was impressed with their win over Mountain View. He said everything they want the boys to do, they step up and accomplish.

"Mountain View is tough," he explained. "And they move the ball pretty well."

Green River's defense was very tired during the game, but they still matched Mountain View's strength and came out ahead.

The Wolves will host a conference game against Lyman on Friday at 5 p.m. They host another conference game against Mountain View on Saturday at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, they play another conference game against the Lander Tigers at 5 p.m. in Green River.
