Lady Wolves beat Riverton and fall to Cody at home

The Green River Lady Wolves hosted a game against the Riverton Lady Wolverines on Friday.

Green River hit their home court strong, scoring 23 points in the first quarter to Riverton's 11 points. During the second quarter, Green River's momentum wasn't as strong, and Riverton scored 14 points to Green River's 11 points. Green River had another high-scoring quarter in the third, scoring 23 more points to Riverton's eight. Riverton tried to make a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 points to Green River's 13 points, but it just wasn't enough to take the lead away from the Lady Wolves.

Green River played a great defensive game and won the game with final score of 70-50.

Isabel Vasco led the team with 17 points, along Addison Demaret with 14 points and Nicole Wilson with 12. Sophia Arnold and Demaret also had nine rebounds each along with Vasco with seven assists and six steals.

"I thought we played pretty tough," said Head Coach Rick Carroll. "I think we did a better job of taking care of the ball. We rebounded really well and we got them to turn the ball over."

The Lady Wolves hosted a game against the Cody Lady Fillies on Saturday.

From the beginning of the game, it was hard for Green River to match Cody's intensity. Green River only scored seven points in the first quarter to Cody's 25. In the second quarter, Green River scored six points to Cody's 22. The Lady Wolves were getting discouraged during the game and fell further behind in the third quarter, scoring five points to Cody's 15 points. The final quarter, Green River did a better job of defensively keeping Cody from scoring. Green River scored six points to Cody's seven.

It was an unfortunate ending as Green River lost the game with a final score of 24-69.

Vasco led the team with eight points, along with Madison Moffatt with seven points. Demaret also led the team with six rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

"From my perspective, I think Cody is probably the best team in the state and they're just playing really well," explained Coach Carroll. "They got us pretty frustrated and we turned the ball over a ton. They got a lot of easy baskets and it turned into them robbing us in the game."

Coach Carroll said it was a very tough game for all of them and he hopes down the road they get another chance to play Cody again and show up stronger than they did last week.

Green River travels to Evanston today to play a conference game against the Red Devils. The Wolves will host a conference game against the Jackson Hole Broncs on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the main gym. After the varsity game, Coach Carroll will be recognized for 400 wins during his coaching career.
