Knights earn first seed at district tournament

The Green River Knights played two more conference games against the Evanston Outlaws on July 12. The first game was another win for the Knights, as Evanston scored one run in the first inning and Green River dominated the rest of the game. The Knights won with a final score of 7-1.

Ashton Eldredge pitched a remarkable game as he allowed six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one player. Eldredge also led the team in hits with two hits in four at bats.

Others leading the team were Dallyn Bushelman with two runs and Lander Welch, Ashton Eldredge, Jace Paoli, Skyler Lee and Brackin Lail with one run each.

The second game against Evanston was a closer game. Evanston came out strong, scoring four runs in the first inning. Green River had eight hits during the game but was unable to score enough points to take the lead away from the Outlaws. The Knights ended up losing 5-8.

Brackin Lail pitched the beginning of the game, giving up three hits and four runs and walking two players. Chris Reinig also pitched during the game, allowing one hit and four runs and walking four players. Brackin Lail led the team in hits, hitting 1-for-3 at the plate. Leading the team in runs were Jace Paoli with two runs and Ben Lail, Dallyn Bushelman, and Skyler Lee with one run each.

"I think we played great," said Head Coach Ben Lail. "We're coming out number one in our district, which is awesome."

On July 14, the Knights traveled to Rawlins to play a conference game against the Generals. Green River led the first inning, scoring two runs to Rawlins's one. While there were no runs in the second inning, Green River continued to take the lead, scoring two more runs in the third inning to Rawlins's one run. Green River dominated the rest of the game, scoring six runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Green River won the game with a final score of 12-2.

The Knights had a total of 15 hits during the game and stole nine bases.

Pitching for the Knights were Skyler Lee and Dallyn Bushelman. Lee allowed three hits and two runs, striking out four and walking two, while Bushelman allowed two hits and no runs, striking out two and no walks.

Lander Welch led the team in hits with three hits in four at bats.

Leading the team in runs were Chris Reinig with three runs, Lander Welch with two runs and Ben Lail, Ryker Dane, Skyler Lee, Dawson Peterson, and Brackin Lail with one run each.

"I'm proud of the way our boys have played this year," added Coach Lail. "I couldn't be happier on the progress that we've made and we look forward to the rest of the year."

The Knights traveled to Lovell to compete in the District A Tournament that takes place July 19-21. The teams competing are the Green River Knights, Lovell Mustangs, Powell Pioneers, Cody Cubs, Lander Legends, Rawlins Generals and Evanston Outlaws.

If the Knights lose two games they will end their season, but if they win two games they will be one of the four teams from each side of the state competing in the State Tournament that takes place in Sheridan July 27-29.
