Green River Police Department reports for May 2

At 5:11 p.m., officers responded to a report of vehicles driving at high rates of speed through a residential neighborhood. Officers met with the reporting party, gathered information, attempted to locate the vehicles, and completed a report of the incident.

May 3

At 6:26 a.m., officers responded to Wash and Play Laundry at 1315 Bridger Drive for a report of a larceny. Officers met with the owner who reported that an individual entered the building and took a plastic toy slide. Officers gathered information and were able to identify a possible suspect. Officers later made contact with the individual, who turned over the plastic slide. Officers issued a trespass warning along with a citation for alleged theft to Adrian Bodney, of Green River, and then completed a report of the incident.

At 8:11 a.m., officers responded to the Sweetwater County Transportation Building and met with staff who reported a bus light violation that occurred in the GRHS parking lot on May 2. Officers located the driver and issued a citation for allegedly meeting or passing a stopped school bus to Melissa Bernal, of Green River, and completed a report of the incident.

At 8:51 a.m., officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision. It was reported one vehicle was traveling east on E 2 S Street and another vehicle was traveling north on S 4 E Street. Both vehicles were approaching the intersection of E 2 S and S 4 E. The second vehicle stopped at the intersection and then proceeded into the intersection and collided with the first vehicle. Officers gathered information, issued the driver of the second vehicle, Charles Stanley, of Green River, a citation for alleged stop sign violation, and completed a report of the incident. 

At 12:01 p.m., Animal Control Officers responded to a report of three dogs at large. Officers met with the owner of the dogs, gathered information, and issued Kassie Ekdahl, of Green River, a citation for alleged animal at large. Report to follow.

At 1:56 p.m., Animal Control Officers responded to a report of two dogs at large. Officers met with the owner, turned over the dogs, and issued a citation for alleged animal at large to Selena Martinez, of Green River.

At 2:02 p.m., while on patrol the CSO observed a trailer parked on the roadway on Powell Street that was in violation of city ordinance. The officer attempted to locate and contact the registered owner. The officer tagged the trailer and completed an incident report.

At 3:48 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Monroe Avenue and issued the driver, a juvenile, age 17, of Green River, a citation for allegedly speeding in a school zone.

At 3:59 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Pennsylvania Boulevard for a report of a disturbance. Officers met with several individuals involved in a verbal dispute. Officers gathered information, conducted a civil standby, and completed an incident report.

At 5:43 p.m., officers responded to a report of a missing juvenile. Officers met with a parent/guardian who reported the juvenile left the house without permission and could not be located. Officers were notified the juvenile had been located and responded to the area where they met with the juvenile and then transported them back home. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

May 4

At 7:31 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Wilderness Trail for a report of theft. Officers met with an individual who reported their vehicle had been rummaged through, items were missing, and a bicycle was taken from the property. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

At 10:22 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Monroe Avenue for a report of a disturbance. Officers met with the individuals involved in an altercation, gathered information, and subsequently placed Roger Pennington, of Green River, under arrest for alleged aggravated assault and battery - threatens to use a drawn deadly weapon. Officers transported Pennington to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

At 3:05 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Wilson Street for a report of theft. Officers met with an individual who reported they had found their bicycle that had been stolen back in October 2022. Officers gathered information, verified the property owner by the information taken from the GRPD bicycle registration program, and turned the bicycle over to the owner.

At 5:36 p.m., officers conducted a paper service for an individual with an active warrant. Officers met with the individual, confirmed the warrant, and placed Aaron Murphy, of Green River, under arrest per the active warrant. Officers transported Murphy to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

At 5:59 p.m., officers responded to the area of E 2 N Street for a report of vandalism. Officers met with an individual who reported finding damage to their vehicle that had been parked and unoccupied. Officers observed several tree branches nearby and noted the recent high winds. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

May 5

At 3:53 a.m., officers responded to a residence on E 4 S Street for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, officers observed a large amount of smoke coming from the attic of the residence. Officers confirmed there was no one inside the residence and then evacuated the neighbors on both sides of the residence. GRFD personnel arrived and extinguished the fire. Officers gathered information and completed an incident report. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

At 6:08 a.m., officers responded to the Highway 530 overpass for a report of a single-vehicle collision. Officers observed an abandoned vehicle that appeared to have been traveling north over the overpass when the vehicle struck the guardrail leaving the roadway and colliding with a fence. Officers observed multiple airbag deployments and tires missing from the vehicle with other parts scattered near the crash site. Officers observed severe damage to the guardrail and the front end of the vehicle. Officers contacted the registered owner who advised the vehicle must have been stolen. Officers completed a report of the crash and further investigated the report of the stolen vehicle. The owner of the vehicle later advised they had been driving the vehicle when the collision occurred. Officers gathered information and issued a citation for alleged hit and run to Jose A Lopez Jimenez, of Green River.

At 8:29 a.m., officers investigated a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was later determined not to have been stolen. Officers gathered information and completed an incident report.

At 2:03 p.m., the CSO observed a camp trailer parked on the roadway that was in violation of city ordinance. The officer contacted the registered owner, advised of the violation, gathered information, and completed an incident report.

At 3:27 p.m., officers responded to a report of an individual with active arrest warrants. Officers met with the individual, confirmed the warrants, and placed Nathaniel McCartney, of Green River, under arrest. Officers transported McCartney to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

At 4:06 p.m., officers responded to the area of Iowa Avenue for a report of two individuals throwing rocks at a broken electrical box. The individuals were gone prior to the arrival of officers. Officers gathered information and completed a report.
