Rock Springs High School Senior Teagan Blatter was amazed when she walked into Taco Bell for one of her regularly scheduled shifts last week. She was met at the door with a commemorative scholarship check from the Taco Bell Foundation Live Mas Scholarship.
Blatter applied to the Live Mas Scholarship several months ago and was unaware that she was one of the recipients to be awarded the prize from the Taco Bell Foundation, until she walked into the restaurant.
Blatter received $5,000 towards her education, which she plans to continue in Arizona, majoring in creative arts next August.
Blatter became emotional after it really sank in that she was the Live Mas scholarship recipient as family, friends and colleagues surrounded her. Her family was informed about her accomplishment a week prior and had to keep it a secret.
The Taco Bell Foundation awards $14 million dollars in scholarships annually with $4 million dollars being designated for Taco Bell employees only. Some of the criteria for applying for the Live Mas scholarship include submitting a two-minute-long video explaining what your passions are and how you currently plan on pursuing them, how do you plan on using your passion to help your community, and what is your educational plan going forward.
Blatter was one of the first recipients of this scholarship in Sweetwater County and was among three total recipients in the state, with the other two recipients being from Laramie and Cheyenne.
