Green River High School Track and Field athletes prepare for Regionals

The Wolves Girls and Boys Track and Field team headed north this past Thursday to compete with five other teams from the Northern part of Wyoming, including hosting school Cody as well as Sheridan, Worland, Powell and Burlington. The competition was a relatively small regional meet that served as a tune up to prepare for heading back to Cody this week for the 4A West Regionals Track Meet.

Last week’s meet, known as the Cody Trackstravaganza, allowed the Wolves to get some familiarity with the track and other facilities for this week’s meet prior to State, which will be next week, May 18-20, in Casper.

Head Track and Field Coach Dan Hansen was very pleased with the team’s performance and also pleased that they got experience at the facilities where Regionals takes place just one week later.

Hansen noted in particular the performances of Madison Murdock taking second in the 300 Meter Hurdles, Mikayla Dockters taking fourth in the pole vault and Sophia Arnold taking seventh place in the Shot Put.

On the boys’ side, Dan observed the first-place finish of Kyler Bartlett in the Shot Put, the fourth-place finish of Dillon Davis in the Discus, Christian Oswald’s seventh-place finish in the Pole Vault and Chaz Helmandollar’s seventh-place finish in the High Jump, among other performances in which the coach noted a number of the athletes achieved their best performances of the season.
