Green River Police Department reports for March 6

At 8:33 a.m., officers conducted a field contact in the area of Logan Street and Barnhart Street. The officers ascertained the individual had an active warrant out of Green River Municipal Court. Officers confirmed the warrant and placed Alfredo Valdez, of Green River, under arrest per the active warrant.

At 9:21 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on the area of Logan Street and issued the driver Travis Hernandez, of  Rock Springs, citations for alleged color and mounting of clearance lights and reflectors violation and seat belt: driver violation.

At 2:57 p.m., officers responded to the GRHS for a report of a student in possession of a vaping device. Officers met with the school admin and the student. It was reported the school vaping detection system alerted to a positive vape detection and a vaping device containing a suspected controlled substance was located. Officers confiscated the vaping device and issued a citation for alleged use of a controlled substance - marijuana to the juvenile, age 15, of Green River. Officers notified a parent/guardian and completed a report of the incident.

At 6:20 p.m., officers on patrol observed the scene of a vehicle vs deer collision on Uinta Drive at Keith Drive. Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, who advised they were traveling southbound on Uinta Drive when a vehicle in front of them swerved to miss the deer and then their vehicle struck the deer. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

March 7

At 12:44 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Uinta Drive and E 4 S Street and issued the driver a written warning for alleged speed.

At 9:44 a.m., officers, along with the Green River Fire Department and Castle Rock Ambulance, were dispatched to a vehicle fire that threatened a home. The fire crew quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the original vehicle. The cause of the fire was determined to be from the block heater on the pickup. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.  

At 3:44 p.m., officers responded to Smith’s, located at 905 Bridger Drive, for a report of trespassing. Officers met with a store manager who requested an individual be issued a trespass warning for both stores in Green River and Rock Springs. It was reported the subject took food from the store without paying. Officers met with the individual, issued the trespass warning, and completed a report of the incident.

March 8

At 9 a.m., officers responded to the area of S Carolina Drive for a report of property damage. Officers met with an individual who reported a fire hydrant outside their residence that had been hit. Officers gathered information and notified the Fire and City streets departments.

At 12:19 p.m., Animal control officers responded to two dogs at large that were attacking another dog in the area of Firehole Drive. One dog was transported to the vet with injuries. Officers issued citations to Camyo Cowger, of Rock Springs, for alleged animal at large x2 and nuisance animal x2. Report to follow.

At 1:37 p.m., officers responded to Probation & Parole at 140 Commerce Drive Way for a report of an individual with an active arrest order. Officers met the individual and staff, confirmed the warrant, and placed Frances Apperson, of Green River, under arrest per the active order. Officers transported Apperson to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

At 3:22 p.m., officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision in the Underpass. Report to follow.

At 3:38 p.m., officers responded to a report of a four-vehicle collision in the area of Uinta Drive and E 4 S Street. Officers gathered information and issued citations to Ralph Winkel, of Green River, for alleged following too closely; Carolyn Jones, of Rock Springs, for alleged following too closely and seat belt- driver violation; and Tyler Smith, of Green River, for alleged following too closely. At 11:23 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault. Officers met with the individuals involved in a physical altercation, gathered information, and subsequently placed Alexander Yeaman, of Green River, under arrest for alleged domestic battery - 1st offense. Officers transported Yeaman to the Sweetwater County Detention Center and completed a report of the incident.

March 9

At 7:11 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at the curve on Uinta Drive near E Flaming Gorge Way. Officers met with the reporting party who advised they lost control of their vehicle while rounding the curve due to the ice on the road. The vehicle hit the curb and slid off the roadway into the trees on the side of the road. Officers observed the damage to the vehicle and completed a report of the incident.

At 7:55 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Uinta Drive and E Flaming Gorge Way. Officers met with the reporting party who advised they had been traveling northbound on Uinta Drive when the vehicle in front of them began to slide into their lane of travel due to snow and ice. The driver swerved and attempted to avoid a collision with the other vehicle and lost control and slid into a light pole. Officers observed the damage to the vehicle and completed a report of the incident.

At 8:38 a.m., officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Uinta Drive and E Flaming Gorge Way. Officers met with both drivers who stated that there was a semi truck that was sliding on the snow and ice in front of them. Both drivers attempted to avoid the vehicle, but the driver of the first vehicle stated that as soon as they hit their brakes they began to slide and collided with the second vehicle. Officers observed minor damage to both vehicles and issued the driver of the first vehicle, Wayne Glass, of Green River, a citation for alleged failure to provide proof of liability insurance. Officers completed a report of the incident.

At 6:38 p.m., officers responded to a report of a larceny. Officers met with the reporting party who advised that their license plate had possibly been stolen from their vehicle. Officers gathered information about the missing property and completed a report of the incident.

March 11

At 11:50 a.m., officers received a crimestoppers report for a report of fraud. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

At 2 p.m., officers responded to a report of a potential scam. Officers met with individuals who reported receiving a suspicious credit card in the mail. Officers were able to confirm it was a legitimate debit card offer and no attempted crime had occurred. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident. 

At 2:20 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Conestoga Lane for a report of a hit and run collision. Officers met with the vehicle owner who reported finding damage to their vehicle which had been parked and unoccupied. Officers gathered information and completed a report of the incident.

At 7:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to Virginia Drive for a report of a disturbance. Officers met with an individual who reported a verbal dispute and requested a civil standby. Officers attempted to make contact with the other individual and completed a report of the incident.
