Lady Wolves slam dunk two conference wins

The Lady Wolves traveled to Evanston last Thursday and played against the Evanston Red Devils for their first conference game. Head Coach Rick Carroll felt like both teams started a little tense and there wasn't a lot of scoring the first half. Both teams were playing hard and aggressive.

"We had two of the leading rebounders in the state playing, so we were limiting each other to one shot each time down," said Carroll. "I felt defensively we played pretty good and we made them turn the ball over a lot."

Green River made some good shots and scored 20 points in the fourth quarter. Evanston ended up fouling a lot, so the Lady Wolves got to shoot multiple free throws. The teams were tied during the fourth quarter with four minutes left in the game but the Wolves pulled ahead and had a victorious win 45-40.

Leading the team was Brianna Strauss with 15 points, along with Addison Demaret with nine rebounds, Jayla Braden with four assists and Ella Stanton with seven steals.

Green River hosted their second conference game on Saturday against the Jackson Hole Broncs. They came out on the court ready to play and demolished Jackson from the very beginning of the game. Coach Carroll mentioned that Jackson didn't have a lot of experienced players this year and was starting off a team with very young players.

"We came out and made sure we executed offensively, played tough defensively, and they all played really well," said Carroll. "We didn't foul too much, which is one of the things we've been prone to do, so we didn't put them on the free throw line."

Addison Demaret led the team with 13 points, along with Ella Stanton with nine rebounds. Brianna Strauss and Addison Demaret both had four assists and Jayla Braden had six steals. They controlled all four quarters of the game and only allowed Jackson to score 10 points, ending the game with another win, 63-10.

The Lady Wolves will be hosting a home game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against the Star Valley Braves. Come and support the Lady Wolves!
