Indoor track prepares for season starting in January

Green River High School’s indoor track Head Coach Dan Hansen is excited to get the 2022/23 indoor track season underway.

Hansen commented: “This year we will compete at the 3A level in Indoor Track and Field with the State having two classifications: 4A top 12 teams and everyone else in 3A.”

Hansen went on to say that “if our kids continue to work hard at their craft, we should get some representation in the finals.”

The early numbers for participants this year, according to Hansen, are between 30 to 40 kids. There are nine seniors and eight juniors signed up as of last week, with the rest a mix of sophomores and freshmen.

At their first meeting, the athletes that showed up gave Hansen reason to believe that they should have an exciting upcoming season.

Traveling and participation in winter sports can always be a challenge, sometime significantly shortening the season, especially for some of the more distant meets in Utah, so the hope is that will not be a factor for the predicted colder-than-normal winter season.

Practice for indoor track will start on January 3, with the first meet being an in-state meet January 14 at Natrona County.
