Kale Knezovich gets ready to flip Tommy Dalton during practices Monday night.
The Green River Wolves Boys Wrestling team, who finished third in the State in 3A wrestling last year, has seven wrestlers returning who placed in the top six places in their weight classes last year.
Leading the way for the Wolves this year will be Junior Kale Knezovich, a two-time State Champion in the 2021/2022 season, and Senior Thomas Dalton, who was also a state champion in the 2021/2022 season. Those also finishing in the top six were Freshman James Herwaldt, Junior Spencer Wright, and Seniors Connor Todd, Rylee Mele and Deylin Miller.
This year's boys wrestling program was eligible to start practicing November 21, with their first meet scheduled for December 9. Regionals this year will be in Evanston for 3A West on February 17, while State will be in Casper as usual February 23-25.
The boys will start their season with a large local meet in Utah at the Wasatch Inter Mountain Wrestling Tournament, December 9-10, before traveling to Reno, Nevada December 16-18 for the National Reno Tournament of Champions.
Both meets will give the wrestlers great experience in some very tough competition and should give them a good indication of where they stand competitively this season.
Green River will also be introducing the girls to the sport of wrestling this year. There will be seven girls that will be participating and they also started practicing on November 21.
The goal is to have the girls practice together and they will have their own divisions in tournaments. The girls are scheduled to compete in Green River's annual Thoman Tournament in January. They will also have a State tournament in Casper on February 23-24.
The Lady Wolves' first tournament will also be in Utah at the Wasatch Inter Mountain Wrestling Tournament December 9-10.
Head Coach Josh Wisniewski will be coaching both the boys and girls this year.
