Homecoming Game

After what was reported in pregame as one of their best weeks of practice, the Wolves took on the always tough Powell Panthers for the Wolves Homecoming game. The Wolves returned to opening kick off to the 37 yard line and with good field position the Wolves went mostly to their running game. The Wolves got good blocking from their offensive line and seven carries from their leading ball carrier Bracken Miller. A good run and reception from Jackson Mitchell and Miller scored on a run and the two point P.A.T. was good. The Wolves were looking good and up early 8-0.Green River had a real opportunity to open the game up early on as they recovered a squib kick but Powell’s defense tightened and the Wolves lost their opportunity for a big early lead. The two teams exchanged several possessions before Powell finally ran the ball in for a touchdown. The Panthers kicked the P.A.T. to make the score 8-7 late in the 2nd quarter. The Wolves then attempted three plays and then Powell went to the pass for four straight completions culminating in a touchdown. The P.A.T. was blocked but Powell had established the momentum right before half time, taking a 13-8 lead into the locker room.

The Wolves kicked to Powell to start the second half, but the squib kick was recovered by Powell for excellent field position once more to start their drive. The Panthers wasted no time as they marched the ball down the field and scored again and with a P.A.T., which was no good, they had a 19-8 lead. Again the Wolves offense couldn’t get momentum going and the Panthers got the ball right back. With great field position, they started a drive and this time completed a pass into the end zone and then had a 26-8 lead. Powell kicked of to the Wolves but the Wolves offense was stopped by Powell. After three plays they had to punt the ball back to the Panthers. Gage Finley and Connor Todd among others provided great defense. The Panthers were stopped and the Wolves got the ball back and scored to narrow the gap to 26-14.

The two teams exchanged offensive series but the Panther’s defenses did not allow another score and the game ended at 26-14. The Wolves will have another tough game next week on the road as they take on the conference leading Cody Broncs in Cody.
