Wrestlers impress during first weekend

The Green River High School wrestling program started their season strong with their first competition at the Wasatch Duals in Heber City, Utah.

"I thought that we wrestled really well," head wrestling coach Josh Wisniewski said.

Wisniewski said the boys wrestled aggressively and showed their desire to win throughout the tournament.

"It was exciting to see our team's competitiveness," he said.

Amongst the varsity wrestlers, Wisniewski said he was impressed with both Tommy Dalton and Spencer Wright. Dalton was undefeated during the weekend, going 8-0 with seven pins. Dalton also defeated a number of ranked wrestlers from Utah. Wisniewski said Wright was also undefeated during the weekend and defeated ranked wrestlers as he competed.

Wisniewski said the JV squad also fared well over the weekend, with six competitors winning their weight divisions.

Much of the team will be competing in Reno, Nevada for the Reno Tournament of Champions, while JV wrestlers will compete in Kemmerer.

Wisniewski said he wants the boys to continue to improve each week and come together as a team, but hopes to cut the number of pins the boys received in Utah.

"It seemed like we were either pinning or being pinned," he said.

So far however, he likes what he's seeing from this group of wrestlers, saying they're great on their feet and work hard during their practices.
