School receives buddy bench

Students who have no one to play with at Washington Elementary School will have a place to sit that shows other students they would like to join in on an activity.

The Women's Club of Rock Springs donated a buddy bench to the school as part of an initiative to have a buddy bench placed in schools. Other benches donated by the group were placed at North Park, Sage and Desert View elementary schools in Rock Springs.

Buddy benches were created to help foster an environment of inclusiveness and kindness amongst children. Children who see another child sitting at a buddy bench are encouraged to invite them to join their group or sit with the other child at the bench and talk with them.

"We want to make sure all our kids have friends to play with," Washington Elementary School Principal Anne Marie Covey said.

The bench will be placed at the school's playground.

Aside from the buddy bench, the Women's Club continues to solicit donations for the Green River Police Department's therapy dog.
