Our View: Time to show our Greenbelt support

The Greenbelt is something everyone in Green River can look at with pride.

The pathway is used daily, even during the winter months, by people seeking to improve their health of enjoy a meditative stroll along the river. As the Greenbelt Task force prepares to update its master plan for the first time in 30 years, Green River’s residents should show their love for the Greenbelt.

We would like to see the Greenbelt Task force receive the kind of support it deserves. We would like to see the city’s residents willing to step up and volunteer for a day cleaning litter or some other way of beautifying the pathway. We would like to see the numerous industry reps throughout the county help the task force seek grant and donation opportunities to expand what the Greenbelt already offers. We would also like to see city and county governments assist in expanding the Greenbelt -- perhaps eventually joining it to the Sweetwater County Picnic Grounds in Jamestown.

On that last suggestion, we realize tax revenue is a major concern, but small investments and projects phased across several years would pay dividends for everyone in the future.

As the task force continues in its process, we’re urging everyone to show their support for the Greenbelt. Make a donation, clean some litter, step forward to volunteer for the task force.

Together, we can make the Greenbelt an even better resource for Green River and Sweetwater County to enjoy.
