Indoor track competes at State meet

The Green River Wolves Girls and Boys Indoor Track team took the long journey north this past week to the Campbell County Recreation Center Field house in Gillette to participate with 23 other teams in the State indoor track championships.

Leading the way for the Lady Wolves as they have done in previous meets this season were senior Mariah Brady and junior Muriel Jones.

Brady established her season’s best time in the 55-meter dash by taking 15th out of a field of 70 sprinters in 7.74. Brady also recorded her best time of the season in the 55-meter hurdles, taking ninth place out of 36 in 9.34.

In the distance races, Jones dropped her time by 17 seconds to take third place in the 1,600 meters in 5:22.20 and scored another season’s best in the 3,200-meter run, taking second and dropping her time by an impressive 35 seconds to 11:35.19. In both races, teammate Madison Yoak dropped her times by 20 and 34 seconds respectively to take 21st and 13th in the distance runs.

Two other Lady Wolves finished in the top fifteen during their events. Kaelea Gibson equaled her personal record for the season clearing 4-10 in the high jump and taking 10th, while Faith Bartashnick improved more than 3 feet in her season’s best to take 15th in the shot put at 33-06.50.

None of the boys team broke into the top 15, but many continued to show improvement recording their personal bests for the season showing great promise for the future for the Wolves. Head coach Dan Hansen is pleased with the effort shown all season by his young squad and is looking forward to a number of athletes form other winter sports joining the team as practice for the outdoor season is already underway with the first meet in a couple of weeks.
