Wolves will heat up the court this season

Over the past few seasons, the Green River High School boys basketball team have continually improved.

Last year, they made their first appearance at State since 2009 and head coach Laurie Ivie and her team have one expectaion this season.

"It's the same for all of us -- to raise the bar and get better every, single, day," Ivie said.

Ivie said the early season practices have focused on the team's non-negotiables: urgency, purpose, and spirit in everything they do; communication; give and receive feedback right away; and celebrating the team's successes.

"They are the forefront of everything we do," Ivie said.

This year, the team consists of four seniors, four juniors and seven sophomores. While Ivie has returning players with varsity experience, she said she doesn't have returning starters from last year.

"It has been exciting to watch new leaders emerge, but it will be critical for us to develop confidence early on," she said.

Two tournaments will dominate the team's schedule in December. Ivie said the team faces a tough lineup this week in Casper, as the Wolves will face Cheyenne East, Cheyenne Central, Natrona and Sheridan.

However, with four games scheduled in both Casper and the Flaming Gorge Classic next week, the team will benefit from the court time they'll have.

"We'll head into the holiday break with playing two games more than most all 4A teams," Ivie said. "The early season tournaments give us a good opportunity to take a look at all our players and combinations and analyze where we are at and where we need to go."
