GRHS student to sing at state fair

Dakotah Houchin Beck will take her singing talent to the Wyoming State Fair in August.

After coming in third place at the Futures Farmers of America’s talent show in April, Beck, a 17-year-old senior at Green River High School, readies herself to perform at the state fair in Douglas. Each year, the Wyoming State Fair asks FFA to provided entertainment for the midway Pepsi stage.

After placing third in the FFA talent show, Beck didn’t think anymore of it. She was just excited to do the talent show. She has been singing since she was two years old. She has sang in school, at rodeos, for church and other events. The biggest crowd she has sang for is about 1,500 people.

“When I’m singing, it is almost like a relief or escape from all the problems of the world,” Beck said. “It’s almost like a happy place for me. I can just sing all my feelings out.”

Her FFA advisor, Elizabeth Thoman, contacted her in June about the possibility of singing at state fair. Beck said she was blown away by the opportunity. It wasn’t something she expected or knew about. She is excited for this opportunity to sing for the state fair crowd.
