Lady Wolves win 1, lose 1

The Lady Wolves basketball team won on their own court against Jackson Saturday, but they lost on the road to Evanston.

Both the Evanston and Jackson games were conference games, taking the Lady Wolves to 1-1 in the conference and 7-6 overall. The Lady are one of four teams in their quadrant, which includes Star Valley, Evanston and Jackson.

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves came up short against Evanston, 41-39.

“It was a close game throughout the game,” head coach Rick Carroll said.

At any given time, the largest lead was only five or six points for either team.

“Defensively we played pretty good,” Carroll said.

Even though the defense showed more consistency, they did give up a couple of easy baskets.

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well in this game,” Carroll said.

As for the Lady Wolves offense, Carroll said they are still having a hard time with their confidence.

“They have a lot of skill on offense,” he said.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves defeated Jackson 58-46, however, Carroll said the team is still lacking that consistency it needs.

He did notice how serious the team got in the third quarter when Jackson started to come back.

Carroll said throughout the game, the Lady Wolves had a couple of nice leads and then they would let Jackson catch up.

“We could have increased the intensity on defense a little bit,” Carroll said.

The Lady Wolves will prepare to play Star Valley Saturday in Star Valley. Star Valley is 2-0 in the conference and 9-3 overall.

Leading the Lady Wolves in the Evanston game was Ashelyn Birch with 12 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and one steal, followed by Tayana Crowder with 11 points, five rebounds and two steals and Maddie Heiser with seven points, three rebounds and two assists.

Leading the Lady Wolves in the Jackson game was Heiser with 17 points, five assists and four steals, followed by Kayde Strauss with 16 points, two rebounds, three assists and one steal and Crowder with eight points and 11 rebounds.
