Boys drop 3 during Cheyenne tournament

A weekend tournament in Cheyenne ended badly for the Wolves basketball team.

The Wolves lost each game they played during the weekend, losing against Laramie 73-64 in overtime, to Cheyenne Central 79-65 and to Cheyenne East 68-54.

“We learned a lot from the weekend and grew as a team. We know what we need to work on and put into place moving forward,” head boys basketball coach Laurie Ivie said.

Ivie said free-throw shooting was poor throughout the weekend. While facing Laramie, the Wolves were 21 for 49 from the line. Low shooting percentages were seen against Central, where the Wolves shot 41 percent.

“We won’t win big games with free throw percentages like that,” Ivie said.

Thursday, the Wolves will travel to Worland to take on the 3A Warriors. Ivie said the Wolves are up to the challenge of taking on a great 3A team, saying they know they will have to bring their best game to Worland for a win.

After Worland, the Wolves will hit the road again and take on the Evanston Red Devils next week.

“I would like to see our team play with a higher level of confidence,” Ivie concluded. “Defense and rebounding will be our focus for all game moving forward.”
