Boys add 2 wins at tourney

While the Wolves took their first loss at the Flaming Gorge Classic, the team made a strong showing during the weekend in front the home crowds at Green River High School.

The Wolves started the tournament with commanding 63-40 win over Westside High School from Dayton, Idaho. Their meeting with Thunder Basin High School from Gillette resulted in a 57-46 loss, but their final game of the tournament saw the Wolves pick themselves up and defeat Ogden, Utah's Ben Lomond High School 59-43.

"I was extremely pleased with the way our kids handled themselves throughout the tournament," head coach Laurie Ivie said.

She said the biggest problem the Wolves faced against Thunder Basin was the team's lack of rebounds. The Bolts out rebounded the Wolves by 14. The Wolves also had three starters foul out during the game, giving the Bolts a chance to shoot 33 free throws to the Wolves' 18.

"We know we have to rebound in order to win big games, and we did not get that done," she said.

Ivie said the following game against Ben Lomond was a big one for the team, saying it was critical for the Wolves to come out strong and set the tone for the game.

"After coming off the loss to Thunder Basin the night before, we talked about picking ourselves up and responding the right way," she said. "And they did exactly that."

With the upcoming Christmas break, the Wolves will have a some time away from the court to rest and spend time with family.

Ivie said the team will have a break from Dec. 21-26 before going back to its daily grind. The team is scheduled to play in Cheyenne at a tournament Jan 3-5. Ivie said her goal for the team will not change as the Wolves head into their conference matches.

"Our goal never changes -- get better every time we step foot on the court and stay focused on where we want to be March 9," Ivie said.
