Election finances reported

A few candidates reported raising and spending several thousands of dollars in their election bids, according to campaign finance documents reviewed by the Green River Star.

Candidates are required to report the amounts they raised and spent on their campaigns during and prior to the elections. Along with candidates seeking positions on the Green River City Council and Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees, candidates for county offices, as well as the committee involved in promoting the county’s lodging tax, were required to submit reports.

Green River City Council

In the race between incumbent Pete Rust and Mark Peterson for Mayor of Green River, both candidates reported spending and raising nothing prior to the Nov. 6 election. Another race that did not involve fundraising or spending was the Ward III race between Ed Paisley and incumbent Gary Killpack. In Ward II, Mike Shutran reported spending $212.10 in his election bid, while his opponent, Andrew Morrison, reported spending $98.70. Both candidates reported the amounts as coming from personal contributions to their campaign.

In Ward I, the Friends of Sherry Bushman committee reported a total contribution amount of $900 prior to the election. Of that amount, $800 was reported as coming from personal contributions to the campaign, while $50 came from other individuals and $50 came from in-kind donations. Her committee reported spending $692. For Jim Zimmerman, he spent $494.87, all of which was listed as a personal contribution to his campaign.

School board

A number of candidates for school board reported zero fundraising or expenditure amounts in their election bids. Ashley Castillon, Don Adams, David Munoz and incumbent Robin Steiss reported no election spending in their campaigns. Dan Stanton reported spending $402.68 on his campaign, all of which came from personal contributions. Rachelle Morris reported spending $904.21, all of which were personal contributions to her campaign, while Elonna Owens reported spending $89.25, which came from personal contributions. Incumbent John Malone reported spending $545, all of where came from personal contributions to his election bid.

Sweetwater County offices

Republican incumbent Dan Erramouspe reported spending nothing in his re-election bid for Sweetwater County Attorney.

Democrat incumbents Rob Slaughter and Dale Majhanovich also didn’t spend anything in their re-election bids for Sweetwater County Treasurer and Sweetwater County Coroner respectively.

In the race for Sweetwater County Assessor, Republican Perri Rubeck received $5,700 in contributions to his campaign. Of that amount, $4,000 came from personal contributions, $500 came from the Sweetwater County Republican Party and $1,200 from other individuals. He reported spending $4,635.64 in his election bid. Democrat Dave Divis spent a larger amount in his campaign. Divis reported spending $14,448.13, of which he reports $10,250 came from personal contribution, $2,350 came from other individuals, $400 from the Sweetwater County Democratic Party, $1,175 from in-kind contributions and $1,015 in unitemized contributions as a result of a quilt raffle. In total, Divis reports raising $15,690.

For Sweetwater County Commissioners race, Republican incumbent Randy Wendling reported spending $1,042.32, all of which came from personal contributions. Republican Roy Lloyd reported spending $1,090, of which $40 came from personal contributions and $650 was money coming from other individuals. Republican Jeffery Smith reported $1,469.35 out of a total $1,484.88 contributed to his campaign, of which he reports $754.88 in personal contributions, $720 in contributions from individuals and $10 in anonymous contributions.

Democrat incumbent Reid West reported spending $2,355, which was also the total amount raised in his election bid. West reported $1,705 in personal contributions, $400 from the Sweetwater County Democratic Party and $250 coming from individual contributions. Democrat Joe Barburo, in his post election report, reported spending $1,687.10 on his election, reporting $1,100 in personal contributions to his campaign. In a report filed Oct. 31, Barbuto reported making $100 in personal contributions to the campaign, while receiving $400 from the county party.

For Clerk of District Court, incumbent Republican Donnalee Bobak reported spending $3516.51 out of total contributions amounting to $4,903.02. Bobak reports $3,516.51 came from personal contributions to her campaign, while receiving $886.51 of in-kind contributions and $500 from the Sweetwater County Republican Party.

Her opponent, Democrat Annette Eychner, reported her election committee, the Committee to Elect Annette Eychner reported total contributions of $2,418.04 and total expenditures of $2,608.09. Of the contributions to the committee, $616.04 was reported to be from personal contributions, $750 came from individual contributions, $400 came from the Sweetwater County Democratic Party, $52 came from anonymous contributions and $600 came from in-kind contributions.

In the Sweetwater County Clerk race, Republican Cynthia Lane reported total contributions and expenditures of $649.43. Of that amount, Lane reports making $149.43 in personal contributions and $500 coming from the Sweetwater County Republican Party. For Democrat incumbent Dale Davis, he reports $6,472.24 in expenditures.

Others

In her bid for re-election as the urban representative for the Sweetwater County Conservation District, Jean Dickinson reported spending $12,022.60, all of which came from personal contributions to her campaign.

In regards to the Citizens for Lodging Tax committee supporting the continuation of the county’s lodging tax, the committee reports receiving $1,878 in contributions and spending $828.60 on the campaign.

Of the contributions, $728 came from organizations, corporations and associations and $1,050 of in-kind contributions.
