Wolves track team travels to Utah for competition

Last Saturday the Green River Boys and Girls Track Team traveled south to Utah to take on four other Wyoming schools and 17 Utah teams in what head track coach Dan Hansen said was perfect weather.

The great weather led to a number of personal records, with one competitor for the boys pre-qualifying for State. Senior Nick Boldt got of a strong throw in the shot put, finishing forth in the field of 55 throwers with a season best 48’.01.”

Others performing among the best, finishing in the top eight and scoring team points for the Wolves, were senior Kyle Cacho, who took third in the 400-meter dash, close to his season best at 51.80 and finishing second in the long jump at 20’03.25.” David Martinez and Boldt threw in the discus for the boys as Martinez, a junior, had a season’s best throw of 133’03’ for fourth place, with Boldt just 2 inches behind taking fifth at 133’.01.’

For the runners, senior Miles Moffatt ran the 800 meters in a personal best time of 2:09.15, taking eighth. Junior Marcos Valerio also ran a personal record run, taking fifth in the field of almost 70 runners in 4:39.34, followed closely by his teammate Christian Gaytan in seventh place, also with a personal record of 4:40.67.

The Lady Wolves had a number of personal records set, with senior Lauren Hoyt able to finish in the top eight, taking fifth in the long jump at 15.06.25.

With the mostly good weather forecasted for this week, the team is looking forward to a full week of practice in preparation for the Mountain Man Invitational Friday at 10 a.m. in Pinedale and the Wyoming Track and Field Classic in Casper, also on Friday, at 4 p.m.
