Letter: Support called for Police

Dear Editor,

There seems to be a increasing pattern of people who want to blame others for their own inept inability to cope -- mostly composed of ignorant, neer-do- wells that haven’t taken the opportunity to prepare themselves for life in a demanding, competitive society.

Choosing, instead, to actively resent those who elect to voluntarily protect law-abiding citizens from the worst in our society, such types have now been further reduced to endorsing outright murder of any and all police for no reason at all, beyond simply being police and getting in the way of the miscreants elected “profession” of “lawbreaking.”

Since when have we—as a people- become the least bit tolerant of such behavior!

For instance, since when does an individual stealing a policemans gun inside the patrol car and then further trying to kill him with it comprise a “harmless act?”

He deserved to be shot –for stupidity, if no other reason,-- like self defense!

Put your hands in the air, and pretend to be offended all you want! Harmless, my foot!

That’s never an excuse for rioting –much less homicide—even less, police homicide!

Do it again, it’ll happen again!

They’d never lower themselves to that level, but—just for arguments sake, --what if the police, in turn, said “Forget it! I don’t need the hassle! Let ‘em protect themselves!”

After all, isn’t that is what we’d do if “profit” was the “motivation!”

But then, the rest of us aren’t nearly as job-oriented as the police!

Thank God!

The next time you see a “cop” doing his job, thank him or her! It’s a thankless job—and an underpaid one, to boot!—To quote a famous author, “you’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!”---literally! Just thank God he’s there! It’s a freewill choice he didn’t have to make!!
