Museum publishes rock guide

A new publication from the Sweewtater County Museum gives residents and visitors information about local rock formations like Camel Rock and the Palisades, as well as area geology.

The pamphlet, "Rock Formations of Sweetwater County," was released Monday morning. Brie Blasi, interim director of the museum, said the museum originally had pamphlets about local rock formations, but had been out of print for several years.

"People have been asking for it," Blasi said about the pamphlets.

Blasi said museum staff updated photos and information from the original publication while the Green River Historic Preservation Commission paid for the printing. While many formations around Green River are covered, area attractions such as the Wild Horse Scenic Tour and Adobe Town are mentioned as well. Along with those attractions, sections detailing the area's history, geology and paleontology have short entries published in the pamphlet as well. They also feature two maps to help direct people to the attractions.

Blasi said the museum receives a number of research requests about the geology and history and hopes the pamphlets will bring more attention to the rock formations by residents and visitors alike.
