Swimmers capture conference

Last Saturday was a great day for local swimming with the Green River Middle School boy’s team capturing a conference title.

Green River finished in first place with 244 points. Rawlins was second with 213, Lander was fourth with 179, Pinedale was fifth with 176, Lyman was sixth with a total of 169 points, Big Piney placed seventh with 93 and Riverton was eighth with 22 points.

Coach Randy Walker said winning the conference title was a big goal for the team.

He said they had some good kids on the team who were interested in working hard.

Walker praised the hard work the kids did in the offseason with club swimming and also said he was able to recruit a lot of new swimmers to the program.

“We can give you a skill you get to keep the rest of your life,” he said.

Leading the way for Green River was Michael Richmond who placed first in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. Walker said he broke six school records during the season and finished first in every race he competed in.

Alex Garjeda also had a great day for Green River and brought home a first place finish in diving. Walker said Braxton Moore, Dean Lyon, Lane Hutchinson and Seddon Sanders all finished in the top eight in two events. He also said younger swimmers Oliver Cruz and Sam Quick had good days.
