Ivie named coach

The search is over for a new head boy’s basketball coach at Green River High School.

Sweetwater County School District No. 2 announced last week the hiring of Laurie Ivie, who is currently a language arts teacher at Lincoln Middle School.

“I was very excited and completely honored when I was offered the coaching position, and was immediately eager to meet the student athletes, and begin developing a summer program,” Ivie said.

She has coached both girls and boys basketball in both Rock Springs and Green River for the past 16 years.

“Ivie is an outstanding teacher with high expectations of students; these qualities make great coaches,” Assistant Superintendent Jamie Christensen said. “She is a leader who attacks all she does with passion and the district is excited to have her leading the program.”

Ivie said Monday she plans to meet with the players today to discuss off-season plans which include: weights, open gyms, individual camps, position camps, and team camps. She added all of these opportunities will be offered for young men entering ninth to 12th grade.

Ivie understands the basketball program is a reflection of herself, Green River High School, the community, the players, and their families.

“It is my mission to ensure our team represents these core areas with personal responsibility, class, and integrity,” she said. “With relentless intensity, commitment, and discipline – and by guiding young men to reach beyond their potential, I am confident we will become successful both on and off the basketball court , and establish a program this community will be proud of.”

Ivie takes over for Dan LaRose who resigned in March after two years with the program.
