Several shine at Utah track meet

The competition was fierce, but that did not stop some outstanding individual performances from members of the Green River High School indoor track team.

The Wolves traveled last weekend to compete at two-day event at the Kearns Olympic Ice Oval in Utah.

Green River head coach Steve Boyd was pleased with the teams performance and said it was a fun meet for the kids.

Green River was led by the return of junior standout Tyler Vendetti. After missing last week due to an injury, he was impressive with a first-place finish in the triple jump and a fourth-place finish in the long jump.

Boyd said it was nice to have Vendetti back and his mark in the long jump is currently the second best this year in the state of Wyoming.

Senior Holly Huber had a strong performance in the 60 meter hurdles and finished seventh in the finals.

Green River runner Josie Givens was once again a top finisher for the Lady Wolves, she finished 14th in the 800-meters and 20th in the 1600-meter race.

Boyd said Givens and Huber once again had good meets.

Matt Medina finished 11th and Mylee Minard finished 15th in the shot put. Eliza Morin finished the high jump in 12th place. Shawn McGuire was 26th in the 800-meter run. Boyd said McGuire did a good job in the 800 and is in the top 10 in the state in the event.

Freshman Kirsten Knezovich finished fourth out of six competitors in the triple jump.

The team will take this week off before returning to action next week with a portion of the team going back to compete at the Olympic Oval in Kearns, and other members traveling to compete in Laramie.
