Tennis preps for state tourney

It's the end of the road for the Green River High School tennis team.

The Wolves will wrap up their season starting tomorrow at the three-day Wyoming State Tournament in Gillette.

Going into last week's regional tournament in Laramie, coach Phil Harder said he expected the team to give tough matches to those we compete against and play smart tennis., and expected the kids to show mental fortitude when the momentum changes during the match.

The results of the tournament showed the team did a good job listening to their coach and both the boys an girls team finished fifth out of eight teams at the South Conference Regional Tournament and came away with several individual placers.

The top individual finisher for Green River was Anna Ujvary who finished in third place at number one singles had a record of 3-1 over the weekend. She will open the tournament against Riverton number one Fallyn Richardson.

Alex Palmer went 1-2 at the number-two singles position and will play against Jackson number two Karlie Rambo at state.

Number-one boy's single player Taten Knight went 0-2 at regionals and will open state against Cody Akin of Powell.

Alexander Marchal was 1-2 at regionals and will face Aaron Swan of Campbell County in the first round.

It was a good weekend for the three boys double teams as they all ended the regional tournament with third place finishes and 3-1 records.

Jacob Lock and McCaden Mikesell were third at number one doubles, Adrun James and Brandon Lee were third at the number two spot, and Andrew Halverson and Ian Ebert also were third at the number three doubles position.

In girl's double action, Cassie Deverick and Holly Huber also placed for Green River with a fourth place finish at regionals. The two went 2-2 at the tournament. McKenzie Lucas and Isabel Leininger were 1-2 at number one singles.

The number three doubles team of Savannah Hook and Jessica Scott were 1-2 at the tournament.
