Swimmers have to wait for first competition in new pool

While a ribbon cutting is planned tomorrow at 5 p.m. for the new state-of-the-art aquatic center, it will still be a while before the Green River High School girl’s swim team gets to enjoy their new digs.

Head coach Colleen Seiloff said yesterday that she had hoped the team would get to use the new pool for a scheduled meet Friday against Cheyenne Central and East High Schools.

Instead, she said it looks like the only time the 2014 team will get to compete in the Monroe pool is at a last chance meet Oct. 23 that had originally been scheduled for Rock Springs.

Last month, Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Activities Director Tom Wilson said he was impressed with the progress on the facility that will have an eight lane competition pool, diving pool, and therapy pool.

“It’s looking great,” he said.

Not only did he say it will be a tremendous asset to the community, Wilson said the center will be a huge benefit for the entire community.

Seiloff said that when her team goes to a similar newer center in Pinedale they always come up with fast times.

BISON INVITE

The Green River High School swim team faced some tough competition last Saturday in Cheyenne. The Lady Wolves had some strong individual swims at the Bison Invite at Cheyenne East High School, and ended the invite fourth out of five teams.

Green River finished with a total of 190 points, just 30 back from third place Rock Springs. Cheyenne Central finished in first with 286 total points.

The top individual finisher for Green River was freshman Avery Otto-Horn who captured first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.18, more than four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

She also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle.

Dakota Neumann finished second place in the 100-yard backstroke.

Other top ten finishers for Green River were a ninth-place finish by Neumann in the 200-yard IM, a ninth-place finish from Taylor Orr in the 50-yard freestyle, a seventh-place finish from Brianna Rath in diving, a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and ninth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle by Emily Allen, a sixth-place finish from Taylor Orr in the 100 freestyle and a seventh-place finish from Kaylee Plott in the 100-yard freestyle.
