  • Our View: City shouldn't be paranoid

    Dec 9, 2015

This is how the terrorists win. Last week, a man walking his dog near Green River High School prompted the school district to initiate lockout procedures at every school in Green River, except Washington Elementary School. Our fear and paranoia stemming from the supposed threat of a mass shooting has caused us to be suspicious of everything. A man simply walking his little dog around the high school becomes a nefarious villain aiming to shoot students when looked through the lens of paranoid fear. Social media, admittedly the fastest way to...

  • Lifelong learning: it could have been worse

Lu Sweet, Western Wyoming Community College|Dec 9, 2015

I have several little children in my house and we enjoy our evening reading time together. One of our favorite books right now is called “It Could’ve Been Worse,” by A.H. Benjamin and Tim Warnes. The book is about a little mouse who is returning home to his mother, after a day out exploring. On the way home he encounters some trouble. Each time he is faced with a situation he grumbles and complains “why me?” What little mouse is unaware of, is that each of these seven situations he faces throughout the book, could have been much worse for...

    Lillian Palmer, Staff Writer|Dec 9, 2015

It's a brand new basketball season for Green River High School, with new players, and a new boys basketball coach, Laurie Ivie. The fresh varsity boys basketball team will kick off their 2015-2016 season with a game against Star Valley High School. The game is 7 p.m., Dec. 11 at the GRHS gymnasium. Ivie said it is difficult to gage how good some other teams around the region will be this year because they have new coaches as well. Star Valley has a new coach this year, as well as Rock Springs,...

    David Martin, Editor|Dec 9, 2015

While a majority of the winter sports have started practices already, the indoor track team won’t be seeing any action until Jan. 4, 2016, when practice begins. Head coach Steve Boyd said indoor track traditionally has been a training opportunity for athletes interested in outdoor track during the spring sports season. Boyd said many soccer players participate so they can start to build endurance for soccer. However, since indoor track became a sanctioned sport six years ago, Boyd said it has b...

More than a week into practices, head coach Colleen Seiloff is happy with where Green River High School's boys swimming team has started their season. • GRHS wrestlers seek state championship year

    Lillian Palmer, Staff Writer|Dec 9, 2015

Green River High School wrestling got close enough to a state championship last year, they could almost taste it. At second place, the sweat of victory was one place away. This year, they intend to take the victory. To end the season as state champions is their goal this year. "They're working pretty hard. I think they're pretty focused on our goal," GRHS wrestling coach Marshell Rhodes said. "If we work hard and improve, then I think we have a chance. They realize that, they're focused on...
