Girls basketball team works on the basics

Head coach Rick Carroll and his girls basketball team are ready to take the court Friday evening in their first game against Star Valley.

The wolves varsity team plays their first game at Green River High School at 5:30 p.m. Junior varsity plays at 4 p.m. It will be their first game before the Flaming Gorge Classic, which takes place Dec. 17-19.

"I think we've got good team chemistry," Carroll said of the team.

He said the team is working hard, focusing on both defense and offense. Carroll said the team's confidence is improving while defensively they work on what Carroll calls the "everyday" aspects of defense, such as boxing out on rebounds and help-side defense.

While he admits the last two weeks have been hectic, Carroll said they're working on getting ready for conference season, which dictates where the team will be headed later in the season. The team will have a chance to play against a majority of their 4A rivals before Christmas vacation, which will allow them to make adjustments for later games in the season.

"We're excited for this season," Carroll said. "We're looking forward to it."
