    Stephanie Thompson, P|Jan 14, 2015

Just like that it was gone; and an old tradition continues. About a month ago, I took my 5-year-old son Matthew to the dentist for his six-month checkup. During that appointment, the dental hygienist noticed he had a few loose teeth. Of course, I panicked I had been working hard to keep those in his mouth. I thought something was wrong. You see, in the summer, Matthew was running in our unfinished backyard when he tripped and fell on a rock. He took a direct hit to the mouth and one of his teeth...

  • A shusher's conundrum

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Dec 31, 2014

I have become one of those moms. You know the ones. The ones who shush their kids. I can honestly say I never thought I too, would become a shusher. In fact, for years I used to criticize the moms who used to do that, arguing that when they shush their child they are actually louder making the shush sound than the child was. Yet, here I am years later doing the exact same thing that used to annoy me. I think I have become a bad shusher too. I think it has just become a bad habit; and I am starting to wonder if it even works anymore since I have...

Keeping Christ in Christmas is something my family has always done. Growing up, I can remember how hard my mom and dad worked to make sure we were at church almost every Sunday and that we were in the Christmas programs, which always took place on Christmas Eve, in a church that was packed to capacity. Everyone knew if you wanted a good seat or one at all, you better get there early. The programs I performed in were always elaborately done and all the girls not in costume dressed in beautiful...

  • To self clean or not to self clean

    Stephanie Thompson, People Editor|Dec 10, 2014

Just before the holidays, I start to notice things around the house that are not as clean as they should be. I apparently do not notice these areas except when I realize the house is about to be visited by family. Although I do realize they are visiting to see us and not the house, I still cannot help trying to get the house cleaner than it normally is. Those of you who have ever had small children in the house know just how hard that can be. I will busily work my way through the house...
