    Our youth winter reading program, “Reading is COOL!,” is underway throughout the Sweetwater County Library System. Kids of all ages are invited to sign up. For every 20 minutes a someone reads or is read to they can fill in a “snowball” on their reading log. When half of the circles are finished on the log sheet, bring it in to receive a prize.     Standing at the kitchen sink, watching the skin peel away from a peach, I remembered my mother doing just this through my growing-up years. My mother’s peaches were a work of art in a Mason jar. Their beauty and delectable taste rivaled the best blue ribbon awards at any County Fair. She’d dip the fuzzy peaches in hot water for a few moments to allow easier removal of the skin without damaging the flesh. She always knew just how long each peach would take.     With less lawn watering required and other outdoor projects rained out, these recent summer storms have allowed for extra reading. For me, nothing is more satisfying than to read an enthralling account as lightning, thunder, and watery percussion provide soundtrack to fade the world into the background while pulling me deep into the story.
