CASPER -Experts have identified the remains of a Sheridan sailor who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. Herman Schmidt, 28, was a Navy Gunner's Mate Third Class aboard the USS Oklahoma, a Nevada-class battleship. CASPER — For the first time in at least a century, Wyoming recorded more deaths than births over a year-long period, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The state reported 6,679 deaths between July 2021 and July 2022 compared to 6,189 births. In a census data table dating back to 1922 compiled by the Wyoming Department of Health, it’s the only year where deaths overtook births. CASPER — Gov. Mark Gordon’s office wants to put $25 million in American Rescue Plan Act dollars toward affordable housing. The office is preparing to submit a funding proposal to the State Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee, policy advisor Ivy Castleberry said Friday at a state conference for Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
