Lady Wolves climb conference standings

With Regionals just around the corner, the Green River Lady Wolves Soccer team is heating up at exactly the right time. After a grueling three-game week that saw them take on some of the toughest teams in the state, the Lady Wolves emerged with two commanding wins and a narrow loss, putting them right in the thick of the 4A West playoff race.

The action began on Tuesday with a special evening at home-Senior Night-as Green River took on Jackson. Despite missing their star striker Isabell Vasco, who was still returning from international play in Italy, the Lady Wolves battled hard against one of the top-ranked teams in the state.

With seniors Claira Kuball, Olivia Morris, Samantha Alatorre, Hannah Davis and Brooklyn Morrell honored at halftime, the team played with heart and grit, keeping the match tight from start to finish.

"Senior Night is always special," said Head Coach Matt Robles. "These girls have been the backbone of this team for years, and we wanted to send them off with a performance that honored that."

Goalkeeper Mikayla Flores had a stellar performance, making multiple crucial saves to keep the Lady Wolves within striking distance. Ultimately, a corner kick with 23 minutes remaining proved to be the difference, and Green River fell 1–0 in a tightly contested match.

But things quickly turned around.

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves hit the road to take on Evanston-and this time, Vasco was back. And she made sure everyone knew it.

In a jaw-dropping return to action, Vasco scored 12 goals, breaking her own school record for goals in a single game, which was previously 11. She then added an assist, powering Green River to a 14–2 victory. Brooklyn Phillips and Brynlee Cordova each added a goal, with Phillips also picking up two assists in a game that saw the Lady Wolves completely control possession and tempo.

"We were all over Evanston, moving the ball and forcing them to play our style," Robles said. "It was just one of those games where everything clicked."

The week wrapped up on Saturday in Riverton, where the Lady Wolves faced a physical and determined opponent for the second time this season. Green River got on the board early with two more goals from Vasco, who brought her season total to 43 goals and 14 assists. The junior standout now has an astonishing 151 career goals, a stat line that places her among the top high school scorers in the nation.

"Our first match against Riverton was our opener-and we knew they'd come out ready," said Robles. "But we got up early and held strong. That was a huge win for us."

Green River held off a second-half push from Riverton to hang on for a 2–1 win, closing out the week with back-to-back road victories.

Now, things are getting serious.

The Lady Wolves travel to Casper this weekend, taking on Kelly Walsh on Friday and Natrona County on Saturday - two of the best in 4A.

"We didn't play well last time against Kelly Walsh," said Coach Robles, "but we've made adjustments, and I think we match up better now."

The standings couldn't be tighter: just seven points separate first from fifth place in the 4A West, and Green River sits right in the mix at third, with a chance to move up depending on results this weekend and next. Every match matters-not just for seeding, but for building momentum with regionals only two weeks away.

"We've told the girls all year: focus on the next game," said Robles. "This weekend isn't just about results-it's about proving we can compete with anyone."

After the Casper doubleheader, Green River will finish the regular season on the road at Rock Springs on May 8 in a rivalry match that could carry massive postseason implications. The top seed earns a bye and an automatic bid to State, while others must battle through a tough regional bracket.

No matter the opponent, the mission is clear: play tough, play smart, and keep climbing. With Vasco rewriting record books, underclassmen stepping up, and seniors leading with heart, the Lady Wolves are locked in for a wild finish. This weekend's games could define their postseason path-and they're ready for the fight.
