Local events celebrate Pride Month

Several local events are coming up as part of recognizing and celebrating Pride Month.

This weekend, Pride events will kick off in Rock Springs.

On Friday night, June 7, The Starling Company will present a performance of "Freakshow." The drag show will be "an original, immersive, theatrical experience," according to the Starling Company, and will focus on a circus-like atmosphere of spooky and scary performances. The event is rated "R," and tickets are available at different price points for the performance at 7:30 p.m. at the Broadway Theater.

On Saturday, June 8, Rock Springs Pride will host the second annual Pride Fest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bunning Park in Downtown Rock Springs. The event will include live music, local vendors, yoga sessions, family-friendly activities, food trucks, princesses from Upstage Theater Company, a pet parade, a Rainbow Runway, Drag Story Time, and more.

"Pride Fest 2024 aims to unite individuals from all backgrounds to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, promoting love, acceptance, and understanding," Rock Springs pride said in a press release.

Green River's main Pride events will take place the following weekend, hosted by PFLAG Green River. The festivities will start with the "Don't Hide the Pride" Dance on Friday night, June 14, from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Pavilion. Drag for a Cause will be opening the dance.

The celebration will continue with the third annual "Pride in the Park" event on Saturday. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Expedition Island and Evers Park, and will include vendors, games, kids activities, yoga, belly dancing, and more. Those who complete a scavenger hunt can receive a free t-shirt in preparation for the color party finale at 2:30 p.m.
